Orthopedic cases can be challenging for general practice teams, especially when the pet needs surgical stabilization but the client wants to remain with the hospital they already trust. Veterinary Surgical Options helps partner hospitals coordinate selected orthopedic procedures on-site, by arrangement, with case review before scheduling.
Nichole Danova, DVM brings a surgically focused background and specialized orthopedic preparation to partner facilities. Each case is evaluated for patient needs, diagnostics, facility capabilities, instrumentation, monitoring, nursing support, and post-op care planning.
Orthopedic cases reviewed
Orthopedic surgery may include:
- Cranial cruciate ligament disease
- TPLO or extracapsular stabilization when appropriate
- Selected fracture stabilization or fixation
- Patellar luxation stabilization
- Hip disease or luxation case review
- Other bone, joint, ligament, tendon, or stabilization concerns by consultation
Case acceptance is not automatic. VSO reviews each case to determine whether the procedure can be performed safely in the partner hospital environment or whether referral to a specialty or emergency center is more appropriate.
A collaborative surgical model
VSO works as an extension of the referring hospital, not a replacement for it. Your team remains central to client communication, anesthesia support, recovery, and follow-up care. Dr. Danova provides surgical planning, performs the accepted procedure, and supplies detailed operative notes and postoperative instructions.
This model helps preserve continuity for clients and patients while allowing partner hospitals to offer selected surgical options without building every capability in-house.
Preparing for orthopedic surgery
Before scheduling, VSO may request:
- Patient history and current medications
- Physical exam findings
- Radiographs or other imaging
- Laboratory work and anesthesia considerations
- Current pain management or stabilization plan
- Hospital equipment and surgical inventory details
- Staff availability for anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery
Specific requirements vary by procedure and patient.
For pet owners
Veterinary Surgical Options does not operate as a direct walk-in surgery hospital. If you are a pet owner and your pet may need orthopedic surgery, ask your primary veterinarian whether your hospital can coordinate a case review with VSO or another appropriate surgical provider.
Request an orthopedic case review
If your hospital has a dog or cat with an orthopedic condition that may benefit from surgical review, send a referral inquiry with the patient summary and diagnostic imaging. VSO will review feasibility, facility fit, and scheduling by arrangement.
